Editor??

Hey Guys,
I hate the Doors DXL editor.
I would like to user another, but I want one that can "compile"/run the script.
I have been using textpad to modify to a certain point, then bring it back into doors to run.
I have looked at thye Sodius editor, but I am not sure how to get that to work.

I have enough problems with just the DXL itself!
It would have been nice for them to think about that when they developed it!
I like it when I am in Excel and it will show nested parenthesis and brackets.
Geeez, what a novel idea! One of the few good things that MS came up with!

Surprised that no one else jumped onto this earlier - a company called Sodius has developed a DXL editor, run time compiler and debugger that is worth having a look at - go to http://www.dxleditor.com.

I use it and it has saved a lot of time.

Hi Paul,

Yes, I have looked at that a little bit.
I will have to look closer. I was concerned about how to link it in with Doors so
I could run the script within the editor itself.
But, thanks for the confirmation.

Unfortunately the Sodius editor is your only option based on your stated wishes. It's a good product and works (allows you to execute) as long as the DOORS client is installed on your local computer.

If you just wanted a simple offline editor tool the Crimson Editor is another option. Doesn't have the features that the Sodius editor has but also doesn't have any licensing hoops to jump through either.

I'm set in my ways with Crimson editor but Sodius seems superior. But I figure that Crimson is two orders of magnitude better than Notepad and Sodius is perhaps 50% better. Its ability to recognize a "function" and provide a list of declared functions and their parameters seems like the Cat's Meow (as does presenting the DXL errors legibly); but of course the evil IT folks want to have something to say about it; which was "NO".

I have a minority opinion about "pushing" doors the code from the editor. Seems rather tricky to tell DOORS the correct "context" for the script, such as which project/folder/module/object. Tricky and undesirable since the deployed code won't have that. So I will set up the DXL editor in the correct context (e.g. the open module) and "#include" the code under control by the editor; "pulling" the code. I must be dense since lots of other folks like "pushing" but I don't see the value.

Hi BDavenport,

Yes, I have seen references to the Crimson editor.
I will have to check that one out too. I am sure it is better than the Doors built in editor.

Thanks!
